This trail is very easily accessible. Perfect for an after work run or weekend hike with the dogs. Keep an eye are ear open for rattlesnakes, because they are up there.

This 4.5 out-and-back trail starts just south of the Natural History Museum at the University of Utah. Park in the museum parking lot and walk up the stairs to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Then head south along the BST for a few minutes until you reach a big yellow sign with 174 on it. Turn left here and start heading up the mountain.

After about a mile up the trail, you will hit a split in the trail. The trail to the left will take you to the Living Room and the trail to the right will take you to the top of Mt Wire. This trail is pretty rocky and technical in some places so stay light on your feet and watch your step.

Continue towards the top until you reach the first saddle. Once you get here, keep right up the peak. You will come upon a couple more saddles in the mountain, just keep south along the trail to the top. When you reach the peak, you'll see the 25 foot tall old airway beacon. You can climb the ladder to the top to get an even better view of the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch mountains.

The elevation at the peak is about 7,140 ft.

Easy access and the trails are clear of snow earlier than many nearby hikes. This one is especially beautiful when the wildflowers start to come out!

I live in Park City and decided to meet a friend who lives in SLC for this hike. We met at a trailhead close to the Zoo. We are both fit and runners but from where we started on this trail only about 10% is runnable and very steep in some places. We went in late August, too, so everything was dry and mostly brown. It was windy at the top so we didn't take the time to climb the ladder - maybe next time but I won't be rushing back to do this hike when I would prefer to do Lambs Canyon off of Highway 80 for example.
