An excellent workout! A short, challenging trail marches you up to one of the best views of the Salt Lake Valley. It’s an outstanding place to watch the sunset, or escape the winter inversion.
Named for a toddler who died of Lukemia in 1995, Jacks Mountain is a beautiful place to sit above the valley and contemplate mortality. On the peak, you’ll find a couple mailboxes containing heartfelt notes from hundreds of hikers throughout the years. It’s the kind of place that restores your faith in humanity.
The trail is steep but well worth it, climbing one of the prominent foothills above Salt Lake City. It’s a great year-round adventure. In the spring, the wildflowers are brilliant and plentiful. In the summer, the sunsets are ablaze. And in the winter, the escape from the inversion is welcome.
The trail is 2.4 miles to the top with 1,300 feet of elevation gain. Dogs are able to use the trail but must be kept on a leash. This hike is a great option to avoid the crowds at the Living Room.
Enjoy!
