Trail Run the Boat Road and Laguna Ridge

There a numerous trails in the Laguna Coast Wilderness that proceed up and along the ridges and down into the canyons (or the reverse), and most are excellent for trail running, hiking, and mountain biking.

A classic out-and-back (with many options for loops) begins at the end of Dartmoor Street and proceeds up the ridgeline on the Spur/Laguna Ridge fire road. Near the summit is a turnoff to the left to an excellent overlook with sweeping views up and down the Pacific Coast and the city of Laguna Beach.

From there, proceed northeast on the Boat Road for 1.3 miles to the intersection at the high point with Bommer Ridge, Water Tank, Laguna Bowl, and Laguna Ridge trails. From here, you can head back the way you came, or create loops of ever increasing distance (and difficulty). The trails down Water Tank and Laguna Bowl are particularly beautiful, with epic views of the coast and, in the case of Water Tank in spring, a field of Golden Yarrow flowers that is simply breathtaking.
