The Laguna Coast Wilderness is 7,000 acres of magnificent coastal canyons, mountains, and natural lakes overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has over 50 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails, and is home to over 40 endangered species.

There a numerous trails in the Laguna Coast Wilderness that proceed up and along the ridges and down into the canyons (or the reverse), and are quite popular for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running.

A great mountain biking loop begins in Emerald Canyon at the end of Emerald Canyon Road and proceeds 1.8 miles to the intersection with Old Emerald Trail. Go right on Old Emerald Trail and climb .7 miles till it intersects with Bommer Ridge Trail at the summit.

From Bommer Ridge, there are numerous options, including going straight down into Laguna Canyon via the Laguna Ridge trail, or going right and Boat Road (the most direct back to Emerald Canyon), or making another loop via Water Tank or Laguna Bowl trails, adding an additional 1.25 and 1.75 miles to your loop, respectively. All provide magnificent views overlooking Laguna Beach, the Pacific Coast Highway, and the Pacific Ocean.
