Fishing Big Cottonwood Creek
Cottonwood Heights, Utah
Description
Added by Nick Oman
Good fishing. Smaller crowds. Beautiful scenery.
Big Cottonwood Creek is a fun little creek that is often overlooked by the more popular fly-fishing waters of the Provo, Weber, and the Green Rivers of Utah. The fish aren't as big, but make up for it by being less selective with flies and a willingness to go after dry flies any time of the year.
I have fished this creek from the mouth of the canyon up to just below Solitude Resort with good luck almost the entire length of the stream. The trick to this creek is to park and walk as much of the stream as possible, fishing as many of the little pools as you can. One thing to be aware of is that it can be tight with the trees. Losing flies is just part of the experience. With a little patience, it will be a fun experience just minutes from Salt Lake City.

Fishing Big Cottonwood Creek Reviews
Good fishing, I usually chill or explore around the creek with my kids too.

When does the bad spring runoff usually subside? Can you recommend any parking areas? Does the water get too low in summer?
