Shark Fin Cove
Davenport, California
Description
Added by Alysha Painter
Great place for a beach picnic. Scenic and unique rock formation. Watch sunset over the ocean.
Shark Fin Cove is a large rock formation in an inlet off Highway 1 in Northern California. It is located 1 mile south of Davenport and 10 miles north of Santa Cruz. There is a sizable parking lot located on the side of Highway 1 to park in. Walk down the path left of the parking lot and cross the train tracks, there is a sign indicating the cove. There is a large pipe you have to go under and, while the path down to the cove isn't long, it is pretty steep and uneven, so walk carefully. There are also great places to take pictures on the cliffs on either side of the rock before you head down to the beach.
The beach has the large, shark fin shaped rock in the middle as well as a small cave on the left. The beach is perfect for a picnic, to watch the sunset, take some pictures, or just relax. There are no dogs or fires allowed on the beach (though I often see small bonfires there anyways).

Shark Fin Cove Reviews
Very fun to visit though it is sort of hard to make it down to the actual beach. See https://sharkfincove.org too for up to date info.

Shark Fine Cove can't be seen from the road, and is easily missed if you aren't looking for it. I've driven this section of coast multiple times and didn't even know this beach existed until recently. It's unbelievably beautiful!

So many vantage points to appreciate and an easy pitstop off Cabrillo. Truly gorgeous. Highly highly recommended.
