The Best Place to Catch a Sunrise in Idaho: Fall Creek Falls
Looking for some peace and quiet? Sunrise at Fall Creek Falls is the place.
I've lived in southeast Idaho for most of my life, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I finally discovered the hidden gem, which is Fall Creek Falls. My brother introduced me to it one morning, and I've been hooked on this waterfall ever since.
I've come back for numerous sunrises since then and have seen moose, bald eagles, swans, and pelicans hanging out around the falls. Fall Creek Falls is one of the most serene places to spend the morning as the sun comes up over the mountains and lights up the Snake River and waterfall. A man or woman can really do some thinking above the falls as you listen to the roaring falls with no one else around.
You can come at all times during the year, but I find around May or fall is the best time to come as the falls are really roaring in May, and during fall the trees along the Snake River are a beautiful shade of yellow. It's also a great place to stop on your way to Grand Teton National Park. After visiting the waterfall, I always like to go over to the Rainey Creek Country Store nearby to grab a famous square ice cream cone. Campfire Peanut Butter Crunch is my favorite.
