Description
Added by Bryanna Johnson
A dog-friendly summit with great views of the Tetons. The last mile involves scrambling over boulders and scree along the ridge to the summit.
The Coal Creek Trailhead is at 7,250 feet. Follow the trail as it goes up Coal Canyon and through Coal Creek Meadows. Taylor mountain is the peak on the left side of the canyon as you climb. When you come to a fork at 2.5 miles (just after the meadow), take the left fork (toward the west) to begin climbing up to the ridge. This is the steepest part of the hike, and there are switchbacks until you get to the top of the ridge, which is at 10,000 feet. Instead of continuing down the other side on the Moose Creek loop, turn left and follow the trail along the ridge. You'll scramble about a mile over scree and boulders until you get to the summit of Taylor Mountain at 10,352 feet. Retrace your steps to get back to the trailhead.
