A beautiful 62 foot waterfall that's easily accessible and perfect to photograph in any season.
Blackwater Falls State Park is a lesser known state park in northern West Virginia. The waterfall is easily accessible. From the parking area go to the back of the horseshoe (the parking area is shaped like a horseshoe) and follow the path and steps down into the gorge. If you're planning on visiting in the winter time use extreme caution while going down the steps, they are usually covered in ice and snow. There are multiple viewing platforms above the falls and one right beside the waterfall. Additionally, you can set up a tripod on the walkways and not cause a backup. The park asks for all visitors to stay on the walkways and not to climb down the cliffs to the base of the falls.
If you want to access the base of the waterfall you'll have to go around to the other side and park in the parking lot located at (39.112922, -79.480006) the trail to the base of the waterfall is much safer on this side of the gorge but I do not advise going to the base of the falls in the wintertime.
Also, in the wintertime this is a great waterfall to photograph because the trees around the falls are conifers and keep their green year round. blue skies, green evergreens, ice and water make an amazing canvas for a photograph.

The platform makes for an easy spot to set up a tripod.. better than uneven ground!

Very beautiful, although I’m not a fan of the platform hike and viewing deck. Holds nature in captivity, I hopped the fence to play in the waterfall anyways. Stunningly beautiful. The shop at the top is awesome with all sorts of crafty things!

No matter what time of year this waterfall is always worth seeing. It's very easy to get to and well worth the trip.
