La Jolla Coast Walk is a beautiful coastline trail, but is a bit of a heavily trafficked tourist trail. The hike can be started and ended at 3 separate locations. The trail is easily accessible with a small parking lot and tons of restaurants nearby.

The trail begins near another popular tourist attraction, the Cave Store. From the trail you can sea kayakers, sea lions and tons of flowers. The trail is rimmed with fences and handrails as well as benches. This is a great trail for scenic views and photography.

Note: Dogs are not permitted on the beach during peak hours. These hours vary from season to season, but more information can be found on SanDiego.gov.

La Jolla Coast Walk Trail Reviews

This is a go-to spot for me in La Jolla. I frequent the cove for some swimming and snorkeling, but the walk along the shore is great. It’s usually hard to get a parking spot along the water so parking in the residential area is your best bet. Along the cliffside there are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy watching the waves, surfers and kayaks. Once you get closer to the cove and childrens pool that is where you’ll find all the cute sea lions. Please be sure to remain 50 yards from the sea lions not only for your protection, but for theirs. After our walk we went to one of our favorite museums, The Museum of Contemporary Art right across the street.

Parking is tricky, there arent many spots near the entrances, especially when La Jolla is busy. Be willing to walk from the neighborhood. Very well maintained coastal trail! The bridge to the swing is a bit dodgy, and that cliff face is eroding, be caredul. But the views are out of this world - go when we have a big swell, the waves look amazing from up here!

Very easy scenic trail. Great for photography and wildflowers
