Kayaking Lake Wenatchee
Leavenworth, Washington
Description
Added by Ashlee Langholz
Beautiful scenery and crystal clear water. Beach and kayaking. Great day trip.
Glacier-fed Lake Wenatchee is only 2 hours east of Seattle, nestled in the Okanogan- Wenatchee National Forest. The park is fully equipped with all the amenities you'd expect - camping spots, a sand/rock beach, picnic tables, bathrooms and a boat launch.
Pack up your boats at the south campground, where you can use the dock as the boat launch (or the beach, if you're prepared to get your feet wet). It's best to start your paddle early in the morning, when there are calm waters and mountain reflections - plus, you'll have a good chance of being the only one out on the water. From the dock, you can paddle through the inlet, passing by the geese near Emerald Island, then head west to the far end of the lake for a 2.5 hour trip, roundtrip. Bring water and snacks with you, so you don't have to rush back to shore.
The beach has day-use picnic tables with small fire pits, as well as a campground, where you can relax in the sun in between paddling sessions.
If you're heading out from Seattle in the morning, stop off at Sultan Bakery along the way for unbeatable breakfast burritos and donuts. And don't forget your Discover Pass!

Kayaking Lake Wenatchee Reviews
Beautiful lake, constant wind, little access outside of park areas (which were packed). Lots of folks on the water with floats, kayaks and paddle boards. Little motorized watercraft. Lots of osprey!
