Erawan Waterfall

The hike to Erawan waterfall is one of my favorite hikes in Thailand. It is a part of Erawan National Park, Kanchanaburi Province where you can take a bus or a rental car from Bangkok.

You can drive the car to the park directly. The park permit is about 200 Baht per person for a foreigner (as of 2016). 

The number of waterfalls in Erawan waterfall has been summed up at 7 tiers where you can hike all the way up and down.

The trail starts off from the visitor center at the elevation of 3,215 feet. It's easily observed, very flat, and well-paved. After 0.01 miles off from the visitor center, there will be a picnic area and snack shop being designated as the first tier.

The second tier is the most busiest of all tiers for 3 reasons: easiness, food, and always-having water. However, above the second tier, food, snack, and beverage are strictly prohibited but a personal bottle of water is allowed.

Further up the hike until you reach the fifth tier, trail becomes somewhat strenuous and adventurous as you may be required to scramble. I recommend a good pair of hiking shoes if you desire to go further than this tier.

However, if the condition allows, you should go all the way up to the seventh tier where the name of the park come from (the cliff of Erawan) but you have to imagine that the cliff looks somewhat like a three head elephant.

The seventh tier is 1 mile away from the visitor center and at the elevation of 4987 feet. Total time is around 1 and a half hours one way depending on how long you stop on each tier.

Fact: along the way you will see a few trees is wrapped around by colorful silk garments. Those trees have a religious significance. They are not the trail markers.
