The Trine State Recreation Area is one of the newest parks in Indiana and is a unit of Pokagon State Park. Trine provides 200 acres of rolling and wooded hills, prairie, and a kettle lake along with the Rolling Oaks Trail, which is a great loop hike.
The Trine State Recreation Area is just off of the 80/90 Interstate in northeastern Indiana near the town of Freemont. You can find the trailhead of the Rolling Oaks Trail just north of the Wild Turkey Shelter. The Rolling Oaks Trail is a moderate 2.5 mile loop that takes you through the forest, across a beautiful open meadow and along wetlands. During my own visit I got to see several species of birds, turkeys, white tail deer and turtles.
Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet in length.
Trine is located around Gentian Lake and offers fishing boat, paddle-boat, and kayak rentals in addition to picnic areas and family cabins. This is a nice little park to visit!
