The Remington Trail is located across from the Remington Hot Springs providing you with opportunities for activities to keep you busy all weekend long. This trail is accessible for Mountain Bikes and Dirt Bikes as well, so be sure to share the trail!
To get to the trailhead, take Highway 178 and turn onto Borel Road, then turn onto Kern Canyon Road and follow the road. It might be easiest to put the Hot Springs into Google Maps and use that to navigate you to the parking lot. Park in the lot and walk across the road, where you'll see a sign labeled Remington Ridge Trail. This trail can be as long or as short as you want since you'll immediately start reaching ample elevation to get beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains. There are several switch backs and a relatively steep and steady incline throughout the entire trail, but the views are definitely worth it. Make sure you take your time and watch for loose rocks since you will be hiking along the ridge. And, since this trail is rarely traveled, you'll be able to find solitude and even witness wildlife along the way. If you reach the valley (2 miles one way), you'll be able to see wild cows grazing. To make this a longer hike, continue to Lightner Peak for an approximately 11.5 mile hike.
Once you finish your hike, descend the ridge the way you came and cross the street to take a dip in the hot springs and spend some time relaxing along the Kern River. Since the springs and trail are part of the Sequoia NF, you're allowed to dispersed camp in the area, so feel free to spend the weekend and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!
