Sugarloaf Hill is a tough hike up a steep, rocky hill in the Knockmealdown Mountains with beautiful views of County Tipperary and County Waterford.
Though only 0.75 mi (1.2 km) to the summit, this hike gains over 1100 feet (340m) on the ascent to the top of Sugarloaf Hill of the Knockmealdown Mountains. Park at the Bay Lough parking area on R668 near the "Vee". Cross the road and ascend the hill by staying on the apparent path to the right of the county wall (stone wall).
The path is very rocky and steep the whole way up the hill, and requires careful traversing. The path is in County Waterford, but once you reach the summit, the cairn marking the summit is in County Tipperary.
The views from the summit are stunning, with 360 degree views of Counties Tipperary and Waterford, of the Knockmealdown Mountains, as well as the Galtee Mountains in the distance.
After enjoying the views from the summit, simply retrace your steps back down to the parking area, staying to the left of the county wall.
