A nice scenic hike with views over Mt Mansfield and Vermont. Enjoy it's swimming hole in the summer!
Mt Hunger stands at 3540 ft and face Vermont's tallest mountain, Mt Mansfield.
At 45 min drive from Burlington, this is a challenging out and back hike. The views it offers and the waterfalls you will find along the path, makes it a good alternative to the overcrowded trails of Mt Mansfield.
The easiest way to get there is to take Loomis Hill Rd then Sweet Farm Rd from Waterbury Center. Enjoy the scenic road! You will find the parking lot on your right, just after you passed Dundalk Rd.
Follow the waterbury trail starting at the end of parking lot and marked with blue paint blazes.
It starts with a short flat section before getting steeper. The elevation is almost constant over the hike, so don't wait for downhills to rest!
You will cross the stream several times and find an inviting waterfall about 1 mile up the trail. Just before you reach the 2nd mile you will see a junction, follow the White Rock on your right.
The last section is maybe the most strenuous one, as you will have to climb over rock walls. But efforts will soon be rewarded by a 360° view over Mansfield Mt, Camel's Hump, Waterbury reservoir, and New Hampshire Presidential range!
If you are luckier than me, you will ave plenty of time to enjoy a break on the wide open summit (instead of rushing back down cause a threatening storm is coming)!
