Located only 12km from downtown Victoria, Thetis Lake Regional Park is a summer hot spot for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. Even during the fall and spring, this area buzzes with hikers exploring its many trails.
Take Highway 1 west from Victoria. Turn onto Exit 10 (View Royal/Colwood) and continue on the Island Highway. Turn right at Six Mile Road, which leads straight to Thetis Lake Regional Park.
Note that this park is also accessible by bike via the Galloping Goose Trail.
With minimal elevation (~60m) and a number of picnic areas, this spot is perfect for a low-key family gathering or a casual Sunday stroll. Walk by the water on the popular Lower Thetis Lake trail (2.5km) or branch off to check out the view on the slightly longer (3km) Upper Thetis Lake trail. Hikers can also continue farther out to Prior Lake, McKenzie Lake, or the more challenging Scafe Hill and Stewart Mountain.
Looking to make a day of it at the lake, don't forget your kayak or SUP.

Hike around Thetis Lake Reviews
If you bypass the main parking lot and keep driving a bit further, there is a smaller parking lot near a stretch of sandy beach which is dog friendly all year round. It is also easier to launch your canoe/kayak/SUP/etc from there: it has direct access to the beach.

Nice easy trail for an hours run. About 10km round trip. All forested with wide pathway. Very peaceful and scenic. An easy to get to out of the way lakeside walk/run from Victoria.
