This hike may be small, but the reward is large with a views of a 50 foot waterfall which cascades down a bedrock sheet and the wild and scenic Chattooga River.
Spoonauger falls housed in Sumter National Forest, received its name after the Spoonauger family which historically lived above the falls.
From Walhalla SC, drive north on Highway 28 until it meets SC 107 (right under 10 miles). Take a slight right onto SC 107 and drive another 10 miles until you see Burrells Ford Road (USFS road 708) on your left. This road will turn to gravel after ~.25 miles.
Follow this road for 2.5 miles until you see a parking area on the lefthand side of the road. The Chattooga Trail will parallel the Chattooga river northbound for .25 miles before crossing over Spoonauger Creek.
Immediately following the creek crossing, look for a sign for "Spoonauger Falls" on your right, and follow that spur trail. This trail will ascend slightly for no more than .1 miles. The falls will appear on your right. There is a another side trail to the left which allows for an upper view of the falls.
